Decide the outcome for each dataset

The supported result depends on the source fields, exact destination edition and selected import method. A field being exportable is only the first check. Record one outcome for each requirement: operational import, approved transformation, accessible archive or exclusion.

Products and variants

A catalog needs more than names. Map product fields, size/color relationships and identifiers to the receiving template. Images, bundles, supplier relationships and custom fields need individual checks. Test how archived records affect selling availability.

Customers and opening quantities

Customer contact imports establish profiles, not their full financial history. Match existing customers and protect separate balances. Opening inventory requires a quantity definition, store map and final snapshot.

For example, Shopify documents different CSV workflows for products, customers and location inventory. Passing the catalog import does not establish that the contact or stock import is complete.

History and liabilities

Historical receipts may remain in a usable archive when native transactions cannot be reproduced. Gift cards, store credit, loyalty, deposits, open orders and ERP balances need their own feasibility and ownership decisions.

Shopify lists separate migration methods for historical orders. Lightspeed X Series documents limits on standard bulk sales import. Do not promise native history or reusable gift card codes from a contact list or report.

Write an acceptance decision

An illustrative customer may have a transferable contact, receipts in an archive and a separately reconciled credit balance. Record all three outcomes.

For each included dataset identify its extraction access, destination method, sample result, exception treatment and retailer approver. Use the checklist before requesting a confirmed scope.
